THE HOLY SPIRIT
The Holy Spirit is commonly referred to as the third Person of
the Trinity. Along with the Father and the Son, the Holy Spirit
has existed from before creation. He proceeds from the Father and
the Son and is along with them to be worshipped as the one Triune
God.
As the Church succinctly confesses in the Heidelberg Catechism:
"What do you believe concerning the Holy Spirit?
First, He is, together with the Father and the Son, true and eternal
God.
Second, He is also given to me, to make me by true faith share
in Christ and all His benefits, to comfort me and to remain with
me forever."
The Holy Spirit works faith in our hearts, sustains us in our walk
with God and helps us to become more holy. He also inspired the
Bible, guiding the authors to write exactly what God intended (2
Timothy 3:16).
